What Is a Micro-Topping and Where Is It Used?
Micro-topping is a thin 1/8 inch polymer-modified overlay. Used for fresh interior and exterior finishes over sound existing concrete.
A skim coat for concrete
A micro-topping is a thin polymer-modified cementitious layer — typically 1/8 inch thick — troweled over existing concrete. It’s part of the Concrete Overlays & Micro-Toppings family and the lightest, fastest way to renew a surface.

Where it belongs
Best matches: interior floors needing a smooth modern look, patios and walkways needing a refined finish, surfaces being prepared for stain or polish, and renovations where existing tile or concrete needs to look new.
The thin profile means doorways and thresholds don’t get a big step. The smooth troweled finish accepts color, polish, and sealer beautifully. And the install is fast — 1-2 days for most residential projects.
Micro-toppings are less suited to high-impact surfaces or active structural movement. For those, a thicker self-leveling or polymer-modified overlay with crack bridging is the better call.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is micro-topping durable? +
Yes, when bonded well. It's polymer-modified cementitious, hardens strong, and takes color or sealer.
Can I micro-top over tile? +
Yes with the right primer. We do this for kitchens and baths needing a modern concrete look without tile demo.
Will it crack? +
Bonded micro-topping over a stable slab usually doesn't crack on its own. It can mirror underlying slab cracks unless we add a bridging treatment.
