Quality stain plus UV-stable sealer holds color

Concerns about stain fading in Texas sun are valid — but solvable. The fix is two parts: quality stain or dye, plus a UV-stable sealer.

Concrete Staining projects with reactive acid stains are inherently UV-stable because the chemistry creates color through reaction with the concrete lime — there’s no organic pigment to break down. Water-based dyes vary in quality; quality dyes designed for outdoor use hold up well.

UV-stable sealer protection

The sealer does most of the UV work

UV-stable acrylic or polyaspartic sealer blocks the wavelengths that fade colors. As long as the sealer is intact, the color underneath stays vibrant. Plan to reseal every 3-5 years outdoors to keep the protection fresh.

What we avoid: cheap solvent-based dyes designed for indoor use, non-UV-stable sealers, and sealers thin enough to wear through within a year. With proper materials and reseal intervals, an outdoor stained patio holds color for decades.
